múm | Icelandic experimental pop

Organised by: Koncertzāle Cēsis

On August 12 at 20:00, the Icelandic experimental pop group múm will perform at the Cēsis Concert Hall, visiting Latvia as part of the concert tour for their latest album History of Silence. Ticket sales will begin on April 10 at 10:00.

múm is one of the most distinctive and original groups on the Icelandic music scene, consistently expanding the boundaries of experimental pop music since its founding in 1997. The band’s sound is easily recognizable—it blends soft, often whisper-like vocals, delicate electronic rhythms, unusual sound effects, and the presence of various acoustic instruments, creating a fragile, dreamlike, and at the same time playful musical world.

Throughout their career, múm have released seven studio albums, as well as a number of singles and collaborations with internationally acclaimed artists, including Kylie Minogue, Kronos Quartet, Jóhann Jóhannsson, and others. In parallel, the group has also composed music for theatre and film, demonstrating their versatility and interest in various forms of artistic expression.

The band’s latest album, History of Silence, released after a break of more than ten years, marks a significant return and a new creative phase. The album was created in an international environment—across different cities and studios—and reflects both the refined aesthetic characteristic of their earlier work and a new, more mature approach to sound and composition. Special emphasis is placed on silence, space, and nuance, allowing the music to breathe and develop in an organic flow.

The History of Silence tour brings múm to concert halls and festivals across Europe, the United States, and Asia, with Latvia included in this summer’s itinerary. At the concert in Cēsis, audiences will have the opportunity to experience the band’s unique sound live—an atmospheric, emotionally rich, and unpredictable musical experience.

The group’s current live lineup features its founders Gunnar Örn Tynes and Örvar Smárason, along with Sigurlaug Gísladóttir (Mr. Silla) and Finnish drummer and composer Samuli Kosminen, often joined on stage by other long-time collaborators.

Preschool-age children will not be admitted to the concert.
