LNSO, RAHMAŅINOVS, STRAVINSKIS UN GRĪNUPS

Organised by: Koncertzāle Cēsis

Daumants LIEPIŅŠ, piano

Latvian National Symphony Orchestra

Conductor: Jānis LIEPIŅŠ

Programme:
Artūrs Grīnups – Symphony No. 9
Igor Stravinsky – Suite from the ballet “The Firebird”
Sergei Rachmaninoff – Piano Concerto No. 3

Alongside the vivid musical features of Rachmaninoff and Stravinsky, reflected in their symphonic works, the concert programme also includes the quintessence of Latvian double bassist and composer Artūrs Grīnups’ creative output – his Ninth Symphony.

For anyone wishing to become acquainted with this enigmatic Latvian master of 20th-century symphonic music, the words of Pēteris Plakidis come to mind: Grīnups spent his entire life “trying to restrain his volcanic temperament within the strict confines of Classicism.” And that description applies most directly to his final work – the Ninth Symphony.

Preschool-age children will not be admitted to the concert.
