The Cēsis Concert Hall Jazz Lounge series hosts a reunion with the famous Swedish trombonist Nils Landgren.

Nils Landgren is the most prominent Swedish trombone player, singer and jazz musician. His career spanning several decades, Landgren has won acclaim on the international jazz stage. Well-known for his unique and lively style of performance, Landgren has worked with many recognised artists, especially as a member of his band The Funk Unit. The string of albums Landgren has recorded fully reflect the diversity of his art. Nils Landgren is also known worldwide as The Man with the Red Horn thanks to his special metallic-red trombone. Music knows no borders; music is freedom – that is how Landgren describes the biggest passion in his life. In 2002, he was awarded the prestigious Tore Ehrling Prize for his contribution to promoting Swedish jazz all over the world. The great musician has repeatedly held the post of the Artistic Director of Jazzfest Berlin; he is the longtime Artistic Director of the JazzBaltica Festival and now also the Artistic Director of the Swedish public radio jazz station.

Joined on stage by the Latvian Radio Big Band, the charismatic trombonist and vocalist will interpret much-loved pieces like Sting’s ‘Fragile’ and Marvin Gaye’s ‘What’s Going On’, as well as a very special programme – albeit not as familiar to the Latvian audience – of Leonard Bernstein’s music arranged for big band by the legend that
