Violinist Daniils Bulajevs and the chamber orchestra Davinspiro Camerata will present a special programme at Cēsis Concert Hall, centred around the Latvian premiere of Italian composer Ezio Bosso’s Violin Concerto Esoconcerto.
Daniils Bulajevs on the programme:
The first part features two divertimentos by Hungarian composers that reflect the soul of the nation as if in a mirror – joy, rhythm, and dance. Although both works share a spirit of light-hearted entertainment, each carries its own depth. Bartók’s Divertimento, written in Switzerland while fleeing Nazism, becomes a bridge from Weiner’s life-affirming brightness to the drama that lies ahead.
The second part presents three works that speak of war, loss, death, and human resilience. Max Richter’s minimalist Daylight is a quiet meditation on memory and absence. Dmitri Shostakovich’s Chamber Symphony, dedicated to the “victims of fascism and war,” is the composer’s deeply personal cry of mourning, permeated by the ever-present DSCH motif. The culmination of the programme is Ezio Bosso’s Esoconcerto, composed in 2017 while the composer was battling a severe neurological illness. This concerto is a manifesto of life – light after Shostakovich’s darkness. Bosso’s music declares: “I am here. I fight. I live.” It is a tribute to the victims and a triumph of the human spirit.
