As part of the Ambiente Stage cycle of concerts, Cēsis Concert Hall is hosting a performance by Martin Kohlstedt, one of the greatest composers, pianists and producers of instrumental and electronic music. His previous albums ‘Tag’ and ‘Nacht’, ‘Strom’, ‘Ströme’, ‘Flur’, as well as his latest record entitled ‘Feld’, have all won international acclaim and were warmly received on his world tours.
Both in his live performances and studio recordings, Martin Kohlstedt sets the standards for the ease with which contemporary electronic solutions can be blended with analogue and acoustic approaches to music-making – from classical piano music and ambient moods to field recordings and sampling of the sounds of nature. Kohlstedt intuitively combines the inspiration and influence brought by these fundamentally different worlds and soundscapes into a unique and completely new whole.
Martin describes his own work as modular composing; his musical pieces are always fluid and never remain within the boundaries of a specific form – not even during his concert performances. Improvisation is an integral part of his creative practice, alongside interaction with the public, the space of the venue and the context.
